Explore Packages ↓Darjeeling in West Bengal is known for its tea gardens, heritage toy train and views towards Kanchenjunga. Nearby Sikkim offers Gangtok, monasteries, mountain scenery and high-altitude destinations such as Lachung, Lachen and Yumthang Valley. These destinations can be combined into an eastern Himalayan holiday, depending on travel time, permits and road conditions.
March to May is popular for spring scenery and blooming flowers. October to December can offer clear mountain views, although temperatures fall at higher elevations. June to September is the monsoon season, when rain and landslides may disrupt road travel. Winter access to high-altitude destinations depends on snow and local conditions.
A Darjeeling and Gangtok short break generally works well in around 4–5 nights. A longer circuit covering Kalimpong, Pelling, Lachen and Lachung may require 7–9 nights or more, depending on road conditions, permits and the pace of travel.
Bagdogra Airport and New Jalpaiguri railway station are common gateways for Darjeeling and Sikkim. Darjeeling can be reached by road from the Siliguri area, while Gangtok is reached by road. Pakyong Airport may offer limited connectivity. Travel to restricted or high-altitude areas can require permits and is subject to weather and road conditions.
